Automotive Blue Book

I you have plans of selling a personal car or truck in the near future then it's worth your while to purchase and automotive blue book. What is this book? Simply put it helps determine the value of your vehicle. This provides you with a reasonable asking price to work with that is fair to the buyer and you. You might be very surprised to see just how much your car is worth.

While a lot of people still choose to use their cars or trucks as trade ins against new vehicles, others still handle it the old fashioned way and deal them via private sale. The automotive blue book is the place to go to determine your retail price for the vehicle you want to sell. While not everyone likes the dealings of selling a car privately it might be the best option if you feel your local dealership isn't offering you what your car is worth for a trade in value.

Just recently we had completed a 36 month loan on our truck, and we also had another car which we wanted to dispose of. Our thought was we would get rid of the truck and the other vehicle and purchase a new one. Were we shocked to find out that the dealership only offered us $2000.00 for both vehicles. We weren't will to take that and were reasonable insulted. We headed to our local book store and picked up an automotive blue book to provide us with what was fair pricing for both vehicles.

Rather then selling both the car and truck privately we opted to sell the truck, our reasoning is that it retained more value. Not to mention a neighbor had his eye on our truck for the last couple of months. So we sat down with him, showed him what the automotive blue book had our truck listed at, and we cut a deal from there. This is a much more direct way of selling a used truck rather then bickering back and fourth over dollars.

We sold the truck for just under the automotive blue book value but it was still a heck of a lot more money than the dealer offered. The second car we took to another car dealer to use as a trade-in. When the salesperson saw that we had an automotive blue book in our hands, he didn’t haggle. He simply asked what the value was and we went from there.

We ended up getting just under the automotive blue book listing for our truck, which was more then what the dealer had initially offered us for both vehicles. As for the car we did trade that in but at another dealership. When the sales manager saw us with an automotive blue book there was no dickering he gave us a fair trade in value.

Unfortunately the other dealership we initially visited lost the deal, and also lost all future business with us. Thanks to our automotive blue book we're well informed automotive consumers.

You can pick up an automotive blue book at most bookstores on the Internet or offline, not to mention most automotive part stores have them at the counter. It's by far one of the best investments you can make for years to come.
